„If a dance is a language, is it enough to learn a set of steps? Do we know what it is to be expressed in a dance? What about our own life? Can we draw a line how we relate inside a dance and the way we behave outside?
“It is our tribal soul – more genuine and pure — the one that connects us to the world. It is our tribal soul, the one that unties of fears and insecurities, fragilities and stress. That is why we must discover them.
Kaizen Dance grows from the passion of dancer and choreographer Kwenda Lima, from his process as a dancer, choreographer and teacher, followed by a rigorous study of african traditional dances and percussion from western Africa. Its results goes to the most intimate that exists in a dance — further than the simple sequences of weight shifts from one leg to the other or the harmony to create fluid movements — It focuses on a very important connection, the connection we build on a dance inside ourselves, and the sharing of such gift with others. Is this development, this connection, the main focus of Kaizen Dance.
As a practice, Kaizen Dance is a way of living which integrates the balance of 3 elements in our life: body-spirit-soul. It involves a methodology that invites each participant to “To Stop, Observe/Absorve and Act“.
It is not only a dance, but an experience of self-discovery, of acceptance, that stimulates our creativity in a safe environment. It invites to let our shields out of the door, and connect in a honest, mindful, respectful and lasting way.“
